Tessie Liu

Tessie P. Liu, (PhD
Michigan), Associate Professor of History. teaches comparative
women's history and modern European history. In 1994 she published The
Weaver's Knot: The Contradictions of Class Struggle and Family
Solidarity in Western France, 1750 to 1914. Her current research
focuses on the role of gender in the historical construction
of the concept of race during the French Revolution. She also
has published articles on race and multiculturalism in women's
history. Recently joining Feminist Studies as an editor,
she continues to serve on the editorial collective of Gender
and History. Her research has been supported by fellowships
from the Social Science Research Council, American Council for
Learned Societies and the National Endowment for Humanities.
